Hello all! Welcome to my blog. This is my first blog and blogging experience. So, this is a brand new adventure for me. I am an avid facebooker (if that is a word) and tweeter (again, if that is a word). Honestly, I don't read many blogs. The one blog that I used to read religiously was about the TV show Lost. Once a week, she would dissect each episode, so technically it was educational (for those Lost fans). :-)
Yesterday, I signed up for this blog and began to play around with a lot of the features. I have to say that it was fun. My purpose for this blog is talk about to incorporate technology within literacy skills. As a 7th year teacher, I am finding myself not using as much technology as I should be. It isn't that I don't like using technology, it is I feel that sometimes I don't have the time to really dedicate the time that I should to creating technology pieces and then using them. My goal for next school year is use more technology and to expose my students to other uses of technology then just playing games on the computer.
I have been taking a class that has really begun to push me out of my comfort zone (this blog being one of the assignments). So, as I take this class, I want to begin to incorporate everything that I am learning (the good, the bad, and the ugly) into this blog in the hopes that another teacher could relate and maybe willing to try. If I don't mention something or if you think a different way may work better, please feel free to let me know. In the end, we are all here to help each other out!
I like your goal of using technology more often. I also like your comment about using technology for more than just playing games. I see a lot of technology being used for ONLY that in the classroom. Teachers need to think of technology as a tool to teach/learn...some computer games can be very limiting and don't always hold the students accountable. Wouldn't you agree?

Marcy,
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with you more. Unfortunately, some technology teachers have them playing on the computers more then teaching them how to make things on the computers. That was my generation now it needs to change. Great points!!!
